I don't normally sign guestbooks, but yours was definately worth signing, as
I had to let you know just how (for lack of a better word) pretty your site is.
Its layout and design are sweet and simple. I've come across few sites as
pleasurable to explore as yours is.

are also people who try to introduce our true Persian culture.

WONDERFUL site! I'm lecturing on Non-Euclidean Geometry here at Northwestern
and at the first lecture I said something to the effect: ``Well, over 25
centuries many people tried to prove Euclid's V-th Postulate and it might be
interesting for you to know that Omar Khayyam was one of those.'' There was
silence in the house of judgement, nobody was impressed AT ALL. Then I plainly
asked ``Haven't you read Omar Khayyam?'' Nobody had. I insisted: ``Does anybody
know, who he was?'' Nobody did. Now this was sort of a cultural shock for me,
since in my home city of Saint-Petersburg any student at any major University
should be able to reproduce 5 to 10 rubai by heart, in Russian translation
though. So I tried to find a good place where my students could see both the
literal and the poetic translations and a Persian friend of mine suggested to
have a look at your site. In the next lecture I'll assign reading your site as
mandatory homework. If it's still your intention to maintain and expand this
site, here is what I would suggest you. As you certainly know much better, than
I do, there is much more symmetry in the Persian verse, than it possibly can
ever be in the Russian or English verse, due to the verbal nature of the rhyme
(like three out of four lines ending in `ast', `nist', etc.). Already your
literal translations reflect this feature much better than most poetic
translations. But to fully appreciate it those who do not know any Persian (and
even those of us who do, but are not native speakers) would need a PHONETIC
transcriprion and/or a PRINTED Persian text with vowel signs. It would be simply
GREAT if you would be willing to add those. Thank you once more for your
marvelous job!

Wading through this great site, i found my self in an enchating journey
through the wonderful past times The era of Omar Khayyam, which has a speacial
echo in the ears of those who long so much for the silence of the ancient times.
The site is wonderfully done, and of course i am not to give an opinion about
the poetry of Omar Khayyam as the poet is Much greater than to be talked of.
Still i want to say , that i expected much more pictures than those in your site
....just to give the visitors a wide idea about life in the times of the poet by
paintings. Wish you all the best.

Hello,
On 11 and 12 november 2000 in the Netherlands I will play the role of Omar
Khayyam in the musical 'Kismet'. I was very pleased to find information on your
website about this historical figure. I printed it and will read poems at home.
I think it will help me to better understand the character I play.
Thank you very much!
Kind regards, Leonard Thierry

I believe that the translations by Fitzgerald actually appear in a book
"The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam" by Yogandanda Paramhansa which was
edited by Fitzgerald.
Also, a similar poem which uses the theme of wine and drinking to describe
various aspects of life was written much more recently by Dr. Harivansh Rai 'Bachchan'.
It is titled "Madhushaala." I'm just curious if 'Bachchan' was
-Vivek. inspired by Khayaam's work.

I have two pictures that were bought in 1970. They reflect one of Omar
Khayyam poems. One picture is a man begging a woman to stay the night, And the
other is the man rejuvinated the next day. They are both in frames with gold and
enamel coated with shellac. I am trying to find as much information about this
