Dear Shahriar, Not only do you have full mastery of the Persian language and literature, but you also have a full command of the English language. Who could be better suited to translate the best poems of our best poets? I’ve read many a translation of these same works. I’m convinced that yours is second to none. Yet you had the humility to admit that much of the beauty of the poetry, being so intertwined with the underlying language, is lost by the mere act of translating it to another language. Your intent was simply to provide a glimpse and a taste of our rich literary heritage. As you know, these poems are not easy to understand even in Persian for Persians. With your translations, I’ve been able to go back and forth between the Persian and the English versions of these poems to get a better grasp of their essence. Had it not been for your contribution, I could not have appreciated and enjoyed these poems to the extent that I now can. You’ve certainly brought it to life for me. I could never thank you enough for your contribution. Yet I must start from somewhere: Thank you for all your efforts. More importantly, I’m grateful to those synchronous events and circumstances, which put a person of your literary caliber, poetic talent, and linguistic skills to do the job that you’ve done. I’m sure that you’ve enjoyed the endeavor yourself. You’ve also made it possible for your countrymen to understand, appreciate, and enjoy some of the best legendary works of their culture. Further, you’ve brought some of the most illuminating and enlightening works of the ancient world to the 21st century’s English speaking folks. If Rumi, Hafez, and Khayyam were here today, they’d have praised you for bringing their work to as many people as you have and across the language and cultural barriers. Finally, your own series of poems entitled: “From Wheat to Bread” speaks powerfully of a pleasant and skillful poet in his own rights. Thanks for sharing it. As you can see, you’ve done plenty in such a short span of time already. You’re truly a gem on the rich crown of the Persian culture. It’s an honor for me to be your countryman. Dear mr.Aziz Jorat, Iam visiting your site since a couple of months, it seems like a great professional work and looks like a real open window to Afghanistan, though the world news media coverage fails short of information for people across the world about Afghanistan but this site is the shortest way to take a trip to Afghanistan and discover the bitter realities lying behind these harsh two decades of old wars and atrocities. so I personally highly appreciate your great constant work inviting all the Afghans and the peace lovers from across the world to find peaceful solutions to present Afghans And Afghanistan present crises, it is a site with rich articles about our history, our people, our losses and about our endless sufferings...... so in short this site a true presentation of our tradition and culture...... finally I wish you a long healthy life and I pray for your well being as well as your health..... May the great god bless you...brother good luck and take care... United we stand.... Husseini Montreal Canada

fantastic!! i've had the fitzgerald version of the rubiayat for some time and have always suspected that there are great liberties taken in the translation. i am no scholar, just a mere reader, but many of his referrences and his phrasings seemed too english and too "new". i shall copy and read this with great delight! janie
