This page features a new discovery about an unlikely correlation between the Rubaiyat and Kahlil Gibran's, The Prophet. See for yourself!

Nice page. I was wondering, though, if anybody could provide me with the Farsi original (or whatever is closest to it) of what is listed as Quatrain 30 in Fitzgerald's 4th edition; ie "What, without asking, hither hurried Whence? And, without asking, Whither hurried hence! Oh, many a Cup of this forbidden Wine Must drown the memory of that insolence!"

I couldn't find that particular rubaiyat on any of the poetry pages..

I have a book Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam rendered in English verse by Edward Fitzgerald. The test of the first edition is illustrated by Arthur Szyk. Published byt the Heritage Press, N.Y.

The illustrations for this edition were drawn in colour and gold by Arthur Szyk, and engraved in London by the Sun Engraving Co. The test was set and the pages made up in English Monotype sachsenwald with Albertus Capitals, to the design and under the director of Ernest Ingham at the fanfare Press, London.

Copywrite 1946 by Heritate press for the George Macy Companies.

Any interest?

I enjoyed this website very much! My family is Iranian, and I had always heard about how incredible Omar Khayyam was. When my English teacher assigned us to write about an ethnic poet of my choice, I knew who I was going to choose, but I did not know where to find the information from. I found this website from a search engine and found everything I needed for my report right here. My parents loved the site as well!

I found your site informative and enlightening. I received a 1908 printing of Rubaiyat as a gift and was curious to learn something of Omar Khayyam's background. You supplied me with this and I thank-you. I am also happy to find the Zarathustra link. Again, thank-you, Derek Kaill Ontario,Canada

Thank you, thank you, thank you. A most beautiful and informative site. My father introduced me to Omar when I was quite young - - I wish he had lived long enough to enjoy your work. I have two questions:

1. Is Mohammad Tajvidi the author of all illustrations here? (The ink brushwork seems a different style than the full color pictures)

2. Will you continue to expand the site? (Please?)

Oh, wait - a third question: Is all this available as a book? I'd like to see you get some fiscal compensation from my enjoyment.
